It was a back-and-forth weekend, as your Crusaders returned to British Columbia for a pair of games against the Trail Smoke Eaters and the West Kelowna Warriors. Liam Horrobin recaps!
Game 35 @ Trail Smoke Eaters
The Sherwood Park Crusaders began the weekend on the road with a trip to Trail. They’d never visited Trail before but faced the Smoker Eaters earlier in the season. On that occasion, the Crusaders came away 6-3 winners thanks to three points from Kale Dach and a couple of goals from Christian Choudu. Unfortunately, they weren’t as fortunate this time around. The Smoker Eaters went into the first intermission up 3-1 and never gave back the lead. Connor Gengle, Malachi McKinnon, Cooper Sharp and Masun Fleece scored for Sherwood Park but it wasn’t enough with them eventually falling 7-4.
Game 36 @ West Kelowna Warriors
The West Kelowna Warriors were the opposition on Saturday night. It was a similar start with the Cru trailing in the first period but they managed to fight back this time. Lucas Brennan scored a pair of goals in the opening frame, and eventually scored his hat trick goal later on. It was tied at two heading into the final 20; however, three goals in the third period gave Sherwood Park a 5-3 win on the road.
Notes:
Sherwood Park remains in fourth place in the Interior Conference. They’re tied on points with Salmon Arm but have played one less game than the Silverbacks.
Lucas Brennan scored his first BCHL hat trick in Saturday’s win over the West Kelowna Warriors. He’s now up to 13 goals on the season.
