RECAP ⎸ One-for-Three in First Week of February

It was a one-for-three start to February, as we detoured through Nisku on our way to BC. Liam Horrobin recaps last week’s action!

Game 38 vs Okotoks Oilers

Sherwood Park hosted the Okotoks Oilers on Wednesday night at the Silent Ice Centre. It was an entertaining night filled with goals but, unfortunately, the Crusaders weren’t able to come away victorious, despite scoring first. The game was tied at two each midway through the second period with goals from Malachi McKinnon and Jeremy Loranger. However, two late second-period goals from the Oilers helped them get a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes. Loranger scored again early in the final period but the Cru couldn’t find a couple more for the win resulting in a 4-3 loss.

Game 39 @ Trail Smoke Eaters

Onto the weekend, the Crusaders traveled across province lines with a stop in Trail on Friday night. It was an unfortunate start for Sherwood Park, who found themselves down 3-0 after 20 minutes. Joel Purdom scored to get the Cru on the board, his first since getting traded from Powell River, but Trail added four more in the second to extend their lead. Kale Dach, Jeremy Loranger, and Eddie Revenig scored, however, it wasn’t enough for Sherwood Park.

Game 40 @ Salmon Arm Silverbacks

The Crusaders traveled to Salmon Arm on Saturday in desperate need of a victory. They showed that desire right from the get-go with two first-period goals. Jeremy Loranger and Malachi McKinnon scored the game which was followed up by Poul Andersen, his 21st of the season, and another from Loranger. The Cru didn’t stop there making it 6-0 from Cooper Sharp and Connor Gengle. Salmon Arm responded with three goals in the third but it wasn’t enough for them to complete a comeback.

Notes:
  • Joel Purdom was acquired early last week from the Powell River Kings in exchange for future considerations. Purdom had 7 goals and 13 points for Powell River in 34 games and was their captain.

  • Dalton MacGillivray was also acquired from the Langley Rivermen, where he had 13 goals and 29 points this season. Erick Roest was moved to Cowichan Valley in what was a three-way deal.

  • The final trade was made today, on trade deadline day, bringing in defenceman Marko Stojkov from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for Eddie Revenig and Michael Munroe.
