Sherwood Park was back in action over the weekend as they hit the road to take on the Saints for the Crusaders’ lone game over the weekend.
The Crusaders would come up short against their rivals, falling 3-2 to the Saints in the Saturday matchup.
“All-around, we have not been very good,” commented Head Coach Brennan Menard when asked about the four-game losing streak.
” Our special teams are sub-par, and that has the ability to leak into your game, so that’s one thing. Overall, inconsistent. In moments when we need to try and turn the game around, we are not getting the same types of moments that we had early in the year, and that has hurt us, just not being good enough.”
Saturday’s contest would start with the Saints drawing first blood as Declan Waddick would score on the man-advantage 15 minutes into the first period to give Spruce Grove the 1-0 lead. The Saints weren’t done there, however, as Tre Peck would score the Saints’ second power-play goal of the period just three minutes later to give the Saints the 2-0 lead after the opening 20.
The Saints would then triple their lead as Adam Perron would score short-handed to put the Saints up 3-0 just five minutes into the second period. The Crusaders would respond, though, as Brec Christenson would get his first career goal with the Crusaders as he would shovel home the rebound out in front to cut the Saints’ lead down to two, 3-1. Brec would then double-dip the chip and get his first career multi-goal BCHL game as a lucky bounce off Brec would beat Saints Goalie Ryan De Kok to make it a 3-2 game.
Unfortunately, that would be the last goal of the game as the Saints would come away with the nail-biting 3-2 win.
With that defeat, the Crusaders now mark a four-game losing streak. Sherwood Park looks to break the skid as the host the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday.
