Crusaders Lose Nail-biter To Brooks

Sherwood Park hosted their rivals the Brooks Bandits last night for a BCHL Wednesday night matchup.

The Crusaders were on the wrong side of a comeback however losing 4-3 in OT to Brooks.

The start of the game would go back and fourth with the bandits in the first frame with no goals to report.

Coming into the second period, Joseph Sinclair secured his 20th notch on the season off a centering feed from Braeden O’Keefe to give the Cru’ a 1-0 lead two minutes into the middle period. Just one minute later the Crusaders would get the game’s second goal as Bode Sampair would fire one home on a breakaway to give Bode his ninth of the season and the Crusaders a two goal lead, 2-0. Braeden O’Keefe would then get in on the fun three minutes after that as he would bury his 15th marker of the season to put the Crusaders up 3-0 just under the halfway mark of the second frame. Brooks however would get on the score sheet as Harry Ahlberg would score on the man advantage for his 16th of the season to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes of play.

Bandits would make it a one goal game in the third as Leon Bussman scored his fourth of the season just five minutes into the final period, 3-2. After relentless pressure the Bandits would end up tying the game up Mathis DuFour connected with the Jack Rosensteel for the tap in goal to even the game up at three a piece.

60 minutes would solve nothing and the game went to an overtime period. Bandits would dominate the OT outshooting the Crusaders 4-1 in the extra period before Harry Ahlberg would bury a rebound out in front to give him his second of the game and the Bandits the eventual 4-3 OT win.

Crusaders now gear up to hit the road to take on the Blackfalds Bulldogs on Friday and the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday.
