Crusaders Extend Winning Streak

The Crusaders had a very successful B.C road trip last weekend as they took home victories against Trail and Cranbrook.

Sherwood Park walked away from the B.C swing with a 3-2 win over the Smoke Eaters on Friday and a 3-2 overtime win against the Bucks on Sunday.

Hitting the road the Crusaders were looking to add onto a current three game winning streak, however it would be Trail striking first in the opening period as Erik Pastro would get the game’s first goal as he would bury the 2 on 1 pass from Dylan Lariviere to make it a 1-0 game for Trail just seven minutes into the period. Trail would be the only team to score in the first as the Crusaders went into the second frame down 1-0.

The Crusaders would tie the game up just over one minute into the second as Ryan White’s point shot would get home giving the providence commit his fourth of the season and would tie the game up 1-1. Sherwood Park would double up the lead seven minutes later as Kent Moors would score on the man advantage to give the Cru’ their first lead of the game, 2-1. The Crusaders were not done there though as Kent Moors would get his second of the period on a loose scramble out in front to put the Guys In Green up 3-1 heading into the third.

Trail would end up making up a one goal game when Chase Nehring would score on a lucky bounce for his third of the season, to make it a 3-2 game two minutes into the final frame. That would be end up being the only goal of the third, giving the Crusaders the eventual 3-2 win.

The Crusaders rode into Cranbrook on Friday for the final B.C away game of the regular season. The game would go back and fourth for all of the first period without a goal however the Crusaders would be trailing in the shot department after 20 minutes, 10-6.

The Bucks would end up striking first in the game as Konstantin Hutzinger would tip home a point shot with 90 seconds left in the second to give the game’s first lead to Cranbrook.

Just five minutes into the final period Braeden O’Keefe would score on a loose puck to give the St. Catharines native his 19th on the campaign and to tie the game up 1-1. In the late stages of the game with just four minutes left the Bucks would once again get the lead when Buck’s captain Jack McMinn would blast one from the point going post-in on Filip Vavro to give Cranbrook the late 2-1 lead.  With just over three minutes remaining and the four game winning streak on the line, Mr. Clutch Michael Mikan would score on a scramble play in front to tie the game up 2-2 and send it into overtime.

It would be an exciting back and fourth overtime period with both teams having Grade-A chances however it would be Sherwood park sneaking away with the win as Michael Mikan would find Bode Sampair on the 2 on 1 as Sampair would blast one glove side on Bucks goalie Jason Tremblay to give the Crusaders the nail-biting 3-2 win.

The Cru look to continue add onto their five game winning streak as they hot the road on Friday to take on the Oilers in Okotoks and then welcome the Bulldogs at home for the final game of the regular season.
