The Crusaders once again had another successful weekend.
The Weekend’s matchups saw the Guys in Green get a huge 5-3 win against the Brooks Bandits on Friday and a dominant 7-1 win over last-placed Surrey Eagles on Saturday.
Friday’s road matchup for the Cru’ seen their rivals get the 1-0 lead late in the first period as Liam Fitzpatrick would score his eighth of the season to put Brooks up 1-0 with just under six minutes left in the period.
The Crusaders would be quick to respond in the second, however, as Quincey Supprien would light the lamp, sending a missile of a shot glove-side on Brook’s net-minder Zach Zaharah to tie the game up at one a piece three minutes into the middle frame. Cooper Sharp would then get Sherwood’s first lead of the game just over a minute later as he was able to bury his fourth of the season to put the Crusaders up 2-1. The Bandits would tie the game back up, however, as Brooks forward Harry Ahlberg would bury his fourth goal of the season on the powerplay just two minutes later to tie the game up at the seven-minute mark of the period.
Just three minutes into the third, Sherwood would get their lead back as Jude Bray, in his first full game back, scored his second of the season to make it a 3-2 game just three minutes into the last period. Just like the second, though, Brooks would tie the game back up pretty quickly as the Rookie Alexie Zhukov would put home his ninth of the season, not even a full minute later, to once again make it an even score 3-3. The Crusaders Kent Moors would then bury a pass from Joseph Sinclair off the half-wall to give the Ontario Boy his fourth of the season to give Sherwood a 4-3 lead just over a minute after the Bandit’s goal. The Crusaders would then get the eventual insurance goal for the win when Joseph Sinclair would show off some slick hands in the crease to tuck home his 11th of the season to give the Crusaders the 5-3 win.
Saturday’s game against Surrey would see the Crusaders open up the scoring just 22 seconds in as Stevie Grumley would find Bode Sampair in Ovechkin’s office to give the Cru’ the early 1-0 lead. The Crusaders would double down five minutes later when captain Stevie Grumley would bank the puck off Eagle’s Goalie Finn Marshall from behind the goal line to put the Crusaders up 2-0 just over six minutes into the game.
Surrey would respond just five minutes into the second frame as Shawn Leary would bury his third of the season to make a 2-1 game. The Crusaders would continue their offensive dominance, though, as Jude Bray would roof his third of the season on the powerplay to regain the Crusaders’ two-goal lead. The Crusaders would gain their largest lead of the game with just under two and a half minutes left in the second as Kent Moors would get his second of the weekend, fifth on the season, to put the Cru’ up 4-1 heading into the third.
Just like the first, Sherwood would open the scoring early as Braeden O’Keefe would bury on the 2-1 to give the Cru the 5-1 lead and O’Keefe his ninth tally on the year. Just five minutes later, Braeden O’Keefe would bury the centering feed from Danick St. Pierre to give the forward his second of the game and the fourth straight goal for Sherwood to put them up 6-1. Max would end up getting in on the fun as the Quebec-native would put home his sixth of the season to give the Crusaders the 7-1 win.
The two wins over the weekend mark a four-game winning streak for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders hit the road this upcoming weekend to take on their Cross-town Rivals, the Spruce Grove Saints, on Friday and then the Bulldogs on Saturday.
