The BCHL has announced Crusaders blueliner Connor Gengle has been nominated for the league’s Defenceman of the Year award.
“In our dressing room’s eyes, and I am sure the same for Crusaders fans, Connor is not only the most exciting defenseman in the BCHL — he’s one of the most exciting players in the entire league,” stated Crusaders GM Adam Sergerie. “His speed, ability to join and drive the rush, and knack for breaking open a game are second to none for his position. He consistently created offense with the puck on his stick and was a major driver of our 5-on-5 success. Connor was a game-changer every single night.
Through the past two seasons, Gengle has been a rock on the Crusaders blueline. This season, the Lindenwood University commit was a point-per-game defenceman, collecting 54 points (14 goals, 40 assists) through 54 games. The ’05-born blueliner also was one of eight Crusaders named to the BCHL Top Prospects Game.
Past recipients of the award include Devon Toews, Duncan Keith, Justin Schultz, and Troy Stetcher.
